Nitsar’s Ceramics: Ancestry, Fire & Earth
A Heritage Formed Before Birth
For Nitsar, pottery is not just a career—it is an inheritance. His connection to the clay began in the womb, where he felt the vibrations of a slip-cast factory as his mother worked. Growing up in the shadow of the kiln, he developed a profound, lifelong bond with the medium.

But his story goes back much further than a single generation.
Honoring Mexican, Nicaraguan, and Indigenous Roots
Nitsar’s Ceramics is a modern continuation of an ancient lineage. Carrying the blood of Mexican and Nicaraguan Indigenous potters, Nitsar views every vessel as a bridge between the past and the present.
In many Indigenous cultures, the earth is not a resource, but a relative. By working with the land, Nitsar honors the traditional craftsmanship of his ancestors who transformed raw earth into functional beauty long before the modern wheel existed. His work is an exploration of this Indigenous identity, blending traditional soul with contemporary mastery.

The Alchemy of Wood and Atmosphere
Nitsar specializes in wood-fired and atmospheric pottery, a process that mirrors the raw elements of nature. By feeding the fire for days on end, he allows the kiln to breathe life into the clay.
Wood-Firing:
The path of the flame and the falling ash create “natural ash glazes,” resulting in earthy textures and “flashing” colors that honor the unpredictable beauty of the natural world.
Atmospheric Firing:
This method captures the interaction of heat, minerals, and air, ensuring that no two pieces are ever the same.
The Next Generation: Passing the Flame
The story of Nitsar’s Ceramics is evolving. As he prepares to welcome his first child, the focus of the studio has shifted toward legacy.
Just as his mother introduced him to the clay before his first breath, Nitsar is excited to pass down the skills, the stories, and the Indigenous traditions of his heritage to his son. When you hold a piece of Nitsar’s Ceramics, you aren’t just holding a mug or a bowl—you are holding a piece of a story that spans generations, cultures, and continents.
